Abstract
The aims of the second year research are to comprehend the engineering
characteristics in the Lienhuken and Shanherken of Chinshan area. The investigated
results of Lienhuken show that the water contents have only little change in the study
area. The lava flow and tufficious conglomerate have appeared loose state during the
weathering process. The slaking test still demonstrates that both of the rock type has
very high ability in the anti-weathering condition. The major composition of the clay
minerals includes illite and semectite, which will occur the negative effect on the
slope stability. The friction angle of the matrix in the lava flow ranges from 26°
to33° 。 These results are similar with basic frictional angle but less than 10° in
comparing the peal frictional angle. The rock basements were cut to individual
block by weathering process in Shanherken area. These discontinuities were also
formed of potential geometry modes of plane failure, wedge failure and toppling
failure. The peak frictional angle of muddy sandstone ranges from 30° to 37°,and the
weak plane will totally failure in saturated condition.
