Abstract
This investigation demonstrates the key advances in gas detection by a silicon-based mid-infrared optical detector. It successfully measured the concentration range of ethanol from 0-2.232 mg/L and the fine range of 0-0.279 mg/L. The detectable range corresponds to the alcohol concentration of about 0.05-0.25 mg/L in human breath and the volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as ethanol (about 0.1-0.2 mg/L) in common indoor environments. The results of this study show that it has the potential to be applied to personalized wine sensors and air quality sensing systems, providing a highly sensitive, low-cost and portable solution for real-time detection.
