Abstract
This research focuses on a question: how could the political liberalism solve the problem of the conflicts between unity and diversity. John Rawls's theory of justice is one of the answers we examine in this article. According to Rawls, the legitimacy of the coercive power is exercised when it is 'in accordance with a constitution, the essential of which all citizens as free and equal may be reasonably expected to endorse in the light of principles and ideals acceptable to their common human reason.' Even in a democratic society there exists different reasonable comprehensive doctrines, Rawls believes there is one public reason which could be involked to end the disagreements raised in a plural society. But his argument is challenged, and proves to be unsuccessful. Rawls has to admit, in his recent artical, that there are more than one public reason
