Abstract
A scalable process to produce cupric oxide (CuO) nanowires is proposed in the present study. The process is composed of two oxidation steps. The first step produces a thin Cu2O layer on the surface of copper plate. After an incubation period, CuO nanowires are produced during a second oxidation step at a temperature as low as only 300 C. The nuclei of the nanowires are found under the surface. The growth of the CuO nanowires is mainly controlled by an inter-diffusion process. © 2013 Published by Elsevier B.V.
