Abstract
The emerging Internet of Vehicles (IoV) is expected to transform the everyday vehicular experience in the near future. However, IoV will also bring unprecedented challenges unseen in traditional wireless communications systems. Fortunately, the emergence of Open Radio Access Network (O-RAN) technology provides an intelligent base station (BS) solution for IoV networks. In this paper, we propose an edge intelligent framework in compliance with O-RAN architecture. A vehicle traffic flow prediction mechanism is performed in the developed prototype to verify the applicability and feasibility. Through the experiments with a real-world dataset, some insights and guidelines are provided in terms of operational efficiency and applicability. To the best of our knowledge, this work is the first attempt to study the edge intelligence for O-RAN based IoV networks. © 2021 IEEE.
