Abstract
Global telecommunication industry, especially wireless field, is undergoing huge transformation in recent years. This change are caused by global telecommunication deregulation, privatization, new technologies, new applications and new customer behaviors. All these changes had shaped a dynamic and complicated competition landscape
This study, first, by conducting value net analysis, try to build two separated profiles for both mobile communication and wireless internet access business. Before bring in competitor into the plate, the tentative goal is to describe service provider, supplier, complementor and customer’s core activities and its respective relationships. Second, after positioning mobile network operator (MNO) and wireless internet service provider (WISP) as each another’s competitor, using platform strategy framework, to exam each service provider’s competition strategy.
During and after these analysis, this study found a multiple level of competition among different players, MNO to WISP, supplier to supplier, complementor to complementor. And there is a mirror image effect, when these two value nets been put together, side by side. Suggesting, not just through the geometrical symmetry, also from numerous key activities and core strength, there should be significant rooms for cooperation and complementarity.
