Abstract
This project aims at exploring the
conception of embryo development in
medical sources from the Han to Song
dynasties when pediatrics, gynecology and
obstetrics underlay its essential foundation.
In order to achieve broader understanding of
pediatric medicine, this project sets out to
delve into various medical ideas of the
formation of embryo during pregnancy.
Moreover, this project also looks into the
conceptions of embryo development as well
as the physiological and psychological
relationship between the embryo and its
mother during pregnancy. Furthermore, this
project focuses on how the process of embryo
development affects the child's health after
birth. More importantly, this project also
aims at examining the medical ideas
concerning the factors on determining the sex
of the embryo and its significance in the
social and cultural context.
