Abstract
There is an innovative approach to earthquake engineering called performance based seismic design. In performance based seismic design, the design index can reflect the structural and non-structural damage that may occur during earthquake ground motion excitations. It is important to get more understandings of the behaviors of the responses of structural systems in order to become design codes for using in practice.
In this study, it focuses on two kinds of typical reinforced concrete buildings with three different elevations in Taiwan. All of them are designed by using Taiwan building codes. Non-linear time history analysis of a detailed analytical model subjected to a suite of representative site-specific ground motions is chose for the estimation of these seismic demands. The focus is on a statistical evaluation of the seismic response of structural systems.
Finally, it gets comprehensive understandings of the inelastic dynamic response of multi-degree-of-freedom structural systems by means of several seismic demands. Then a simplified process that provides quick and reasonable estimates of seismic demand for the MDOF systems is proposed. Also the relationships between the MDOF systems and their corresponding SDOF systems are established.
