Abstract
This paper presents a pulse-modulated polar transmitter (PMPT) system which utilizes a wideband class-E switch-mode PA (SMPA) under a two-level driving signal. The proposed system is capable of handling multiple wide-bandwidth communication protocols in different frequency bands with high linearity and efficiency. For validation, the proposed system was tested under a 20-MHz bandwidth downlink (DL) long-term evolution (LTE) signal at E-UTRA DL operating bands 1, 2, 7 and 32. The -45-dBc spectral requirement of the LTE DL standard for femtocell base stations can be achieved under these bands. The output power level can achieve more than 17 dBm with overall drain efficiency greater than 19.8% in bands 1-4 and 32.
