Abstract
By applying the continuity and momentum equations of fluid dynamics and one degree of freedom vibration systems, a quarter car mathematic model for the prediction of braking pipe pressure is established in this research. The method of characteristics is used to derive the variation of pipe pressure and simulation results are validated by data from field tests. It is found that the model can predict well for situations of high decelerations but deviation exists for low decelerations and speeds. Sensitivity analyses are performed with respect to various system parameters against pressure mean and variation. Suggestions for the reduction of pipe pressure variation are then proposed in this project to attenuate the influence of disk thickness variation on brake judder.
