This proposal is a component (sub-project # 6) of the cooperative research program entitled
“Kuroshio Edge Exchange Processes III (KEEP III). The possible controlling mechanisms on
heterotrophic bacterial production and POC in the East China was investigated by on deck
mesocosm experiments in the summer of 1999. Seasonal bacterial production data derived
from four cruise surveys conducted in the continental shelf of the East China sea were
analyzed to explore possible controlling mechanism.
