Abstract
This research will investigate
environmental disasters such as land
subsidence, coast erosion, flooding,
salinization in terms of land use change in
the coastal areas. A GIS database for major
environmental disasters that have been held
in the coastal areas of Taiwan will be
established. Exploratory analytical methods
and GIS will be employed to delineate both
spatial and temporal relations between
disasters and different land use types.
Confirmatory analytical methods will be
used to validate theoretical hypotheses.
Research results expect to formulate
suggestions for land use planning and coastal
zone management policies.
