Abstract
INTRODUCTION: The relationship of betel quids (BQ) chewing together with inflammatory biomarkers to metabolic syndrome in aborigines is barely addressed.
OBJECTIVE: The aim of present study was to examine the relation of BQ chewing and inflammatory biomarkers to the prevalence of the metabolic syndrome (MetS) and its components and the mechanism of BQ chewing associated metabolic derangements. RESEARCH DESIGN AND METHODS: This is a cross-sectional community-based study. A total of 1,433 aboriginal subjects, 30-95 years of age, were enrolled.
