Abstract
Various patterns of Kuroshio, such
as a loop current, an intrusion event or a
rapidly NE flow, are observed when the
current flows through the Luzon Strait.
Long term observations by instrument
moorings are used for clarifying these
obscurities. Two indexes, the eastward
velocity component and the sub-inertial
water level on the Heng-Chuen Ridge,
are found to be useful to interpret the
variability of Kuroshio as well as to
infer the mutual interaction between
Kuroshio and the circulation in the
northeastern South China Sea basin.
