Abstract
In these couple years, modern people have tried to promote their life standard by hard working; not only to make their life better by working hard, but also to make more and more effort in leisure life in order to seek the true affinity of their life. Sociologist Robet Stebbins has proposed this concept “Serious Leisure” in 1982. He divided leisure people known into two kinds- “Casual Leisure” and the other- “Serious Leisure”, which means,“ People are systematically engaged into certain activities and even devout themselves so that they can find their life so substantial and interesting by having opportunities to acquire or show the special skills, the knowledge, and the experiences.”(Stebbins, 2001).n the literature that investigates the leisure study; most researchers have focused their analysis in the areas of psychology and sociology, but rarely have information perspective in leisure study. And information behaviors study portion, is hard to find the topics about people seek and use in their leisure time, or entertainments in everyday life.ue to these reasons above, the purposes in this study are two (there are two purposes in this study): to explore the information activities of amateur Hip-Hop dancers in their serious leisure, and have a chance for communication between two academic filed. This study has discussed these three following question: (1) How many types of information activities in Hip-Hop dance amateurs’ activities if Hip-Hop dance as a type of serious leisure? (2) How these information activities work in their leisure life? And what are the significant (or typical) information behaviors among this? (3) What are the information representations? Information channels and resources, among the Hip-Hop dance amateurs’ leisure activities?he study used in-depth interview, and self-drawing (from information horizons methodology) methods to collect data. Researcher used “Conext-Situation-Task/Event” conceptual framework as analysis strategy and inductive analysis method, focusing on the description among the Hip-Hop activities about information views, which later conceptualized and indicated the phenomenon of these dancers.n this study, we found five types information activities: acquiring, knowing, expressing, sharing, and delivering from description of these data. two levels typical information activities: pursing inspiration with mass media and life experience, and accessing and sharing information through social networks among their dance community. Hip-Hop dance amateurs’ information sources are sorted as “self”, “others”, “Internet contents”, and “mass media text”, information channels are “personal experience”, “social networks”, “Internt access”, and “others”, which constructed a Hip-Hop dance amateurs’ “information horizons”. Then researcher articulated several HIB theory concepts to description among data.inally, this study suggests to Hip-Hop leisure community, information providers and interface designers, follow-up studies, and theory construction.
