Abstract
A fast hemoglobin variant recently was found in two Indian sisters from Meerut, Uttar Pradesh. The variant, named Hb J. Meerut, now has been found to have the structural change, Ala→Glu, at position α120 (αH3). Relative proportions of the two major hemoglobin components A0 and J in the two subjects were 76/24 and 75/25. Further studies are required to determine whether anemia seen in one of the subjects is due to the presence of the variant. © 1974.
