Abstract
As for managers and investors, it is extremely crucial to identify the representation and stability of companies in different industries. Generally, we explore this issue from the financial aspect or management field. A variety of index in the share market, the trend in which constituent stock is replaced for the whole industries, or the assessment on the risk of mutual fund package investment in the mutual fund market are seen as good examples. However, some targets such as market capitalization and EPS are only present performances of the companies as we evaluate their representation and stability. As far as technological industry is concerned, patent information further reflect the potential development of the company in the future. This research provides us with a window through which we can see how patent information is used to identify the representation and stability of assignee’s R&D field in specific industries. Furthermore, the concept of mutual fund package incorporated into the research enables us to discover how patent information manifests itself with assignees. According to some analysis reports released by several industries, patent numbers serves as essential components which are utilized to evaluate technical changes and creative power in the whole industries or certain companies. As we can see, the items in the patent database can be divided into two parts including Published Applications and granted patent. This research mainly serves the function of building up a connection between these two categories. It allows analysts to figure out what information in the patent database they can use as reference under different circumstances. In the second part of the research, OLED and MRAM are two major cases which reinforce the ideas in the thesis. According to the research results, we can find out that the representation and stability of the group of assignees is greater than single assignee while Published Applications earlier mirrors the achievement of granted patent of the group of assignees in the future.
