Abstract
Shortly after the ischemic attack (<6 hours), we can use different kinds of
medicine, or instruments to re-build the cerebral circulation, and this possibly reduces
the neurological deficit, and also the burden of the family and the society.
Heparin is a kind of anti-coagulant. It has been used for the treatment of vascular
occlusion for a long time. However, since the molecules of conventional heparin (CH)
is large, and they can be used only in intravascular route. Low molecular weight
heparin (LMWH) has a molecular size as small as 1/3 of the CH. It has been used in
the treatment of cerebral ischemic stroke, and has a better outcome though its
mechanism is unclear. In this study, we plan to compare the effect of CH and
LMWH in a cerebral ischemia rat model. The animal will be divided into the
following groups: (1) sham-control; (2) ischemia for 1 hour then treated with CH, (3)
ischemia for 1 hours then treated with LMWH, (4) Ischemia for 4 hours then treated
with CH, (5) Ischemia for 4 hours then treated with LMWH. The animals will be
sacrified 1 day later after a neurlogical evaluation. We compared their histologic
infarct volume with statistic methods.
Result: The different between the treatment with LMWH and conventional heparin in
the groups with 1 hour ischemia is significant (0.13cc ± 0.07 vs 0.27cc ± 0.11).
However, the different in the groups with 4 hours ischemia is not significant
(0.24cc± 0.14 vs 0.30cc± 0.05)。
