Abstract
Vacuum brazing, which included traditional furnace brazing and infrared brazing, Ti-6Al-4V and TZM alloy using pure silver, was investigated. Infrared brazing was performed in a vacuum of 5 × 10-5 mbar at 1000°C for 60 s. Furnace brazing was performed in a vacuum of 5 × 10-5 mbar at temperatures between 1000°C and 1050°C for 600, 1200 and 1800s. Results indicated that the application of infrared brazing could effectively inhibit the interfacial reaction between the braze alloy and substrate due to its very rapid thermal cycle. A sound brazed joint between Ti-6Al-4V and TZM alloy was achieved.
