Abstract
Exosporium bryophylli is recognized as a later heterotypic synonym of Helminthosporium bryophylli. The fungus is hitherto known only from leaf scab symptoms of Kalanchoe pinnata which are formed by the subcuticular growth of the hyphae. The conidiophores penetrate through ruptures of the cuticle as well as through stomata. The few but distant geographic records indicate a wide distribution where the host occurs. Molecular analyses indicate an isolated position within the genus Alternaria. A new combination based on H. bryophylli and neotypification are proposed.
