Abstract
This research continue the research of hybrid powertrain with PEMFC for an electrical wheelchair powered by rim motors. Under the premise of construction in reality, modify and adjust the original powertrain structure and power management strategies. The main electric power devices in hybrid powertrain are a PEMFC system with 500 W nominal power and two Lithium Iron Phosphate battery packs each with 10 Ah capacity and 25.6 V nominal voltage. The structure of designed hybrid powertrain with PEMFC is a kind of series-hybrid fuel cell powertrain. The power management strategies make the powertrain able to meet the requirement of load and prolong the operating time. The test bench is produced and tested with programmable electric load. The operating process is ruled by power management strategies correctly. Even though some components in test bench and load are different to which used in simulation structure, the state variation trend in powertrain is similar to the simulation result. According to the simulation result, the number of charges of traditional series powertrain can reduced by 98% when using designed powertrain structure and power management strategies in the same loading condition. Besides, the fuel cell output power is relatively stable. The characteristic of low number of charges and stable fuel cell output power can be found in test bench experiment result. The powertrain test bench can used to test component, and the process of design can be used as a reference for future related development.
