Abstract
This study was undertaken to investigate the material flexes of water resource by
using the Material Flex Analysis (MFA) in the Taipei metropolitan area. This research
revealed the subjects included the water supply system in Nan-Shih and Bei-Shih
River, investigation of water leakage and the MFA of tap water in the campus of
National Taiwan University. The results showed that the amounts of water supply to
the Taipei metropolitan area was 945,933,191 M3 from the Nan-shih and Bei-shih
River in 2003. The users were the Taipei Water District of Taipei city, the 1st area
(northern Taipei County and Keelung City) and the 12th area (southern Taipei County)
of Taiwan Water Corporation. The finding indicated that the unaccounted-for water
was serious problem in the water supply system of the Taipei metropolitan area. The
water leakage caused high unaccounted-for water and the mainly reason due to the
damage of the water pipelines, especially the PVC pipes. In addition, the amounts of
water usage were 2,019,520 M3 in the National Taiwan University in 2004. The
problem of water leakage was still serious and the efficiency of water usage was
76.7%.
