Abstract
In this study, the effects of the interval length between pulse-jet cleanings on the filtration performance of a pleated filter was investigated using a clean-on-time mode and a constant fan output. The pressure drop across the pleated filter, the gas flow rate, and the dust concentration in the exhaust gas were evaluated. Furthermore, the effective ratio of the filtration area was newly defined as the ratio of the area where a dust cake layer was removed by cleaning compared to the total filter area. This ratio was based on a simple model that represents the accumulation of dust particles on the filter media immediately after the pulse-jet cleaning operation. As a result, we found that regardless of the pulse-jet cleaning interval, the effective filtration area decreased with the operation time, and increasing the pulse-jet interval could suppress its reduction. Because the resistance coefficient of the filter media was determined by the total duration of the inner filtration process, it increased with decreasing pulse-jet interval. Furthermore, the contribution of the resistance coefficient inside the filter media to that of the entire filter was approximately 1.5 to 2 times that of the primary dust layer. Since the total dust collection efficiency was improved by increasing the resistance coefficient of the filter media and the total duration ratio of the cake filtration process, its minimum value was reached at the pulse-jet interval of 5 min where the two effects were likely the least impactful. ? 2021 Elsevier B.V.
