Abstract
Green transportation has been proposed for many years by researchers in transportation
and environment protection fields. But the key points have not been thoroughly studied. The
focus of green transportation is to develop cleaner vehicles with better transport environment
to minimize negative environmental impacts.
In subtopic 2, pollution and waste reduction technologies on conventional motor vehicles
were evaluated. Pollution and waste reduction technologies for the whole life cycle of motor
vehicles were assessed to arrive at better combination of performance, efficiency and clean
environment. Besides, the effect of various alternative (clean) energy vehicles was studied.
The performance of various new vehicle technologies was evaluated. Market shares of various
modes will also be evaluated, in later study.
In subtopic 3, traffic demand and various traffic management strategies will be evaluated.
Strategies to provide better traffic and urban development to give environment and priority for
clean vehicles were proposed.
This "integrated" study aims at policy planning of clean transportation technologies and
its application strategies. Theoretical framework for integrated strategies for green
transportation was studied. Transit-oriented urban development and land use control strategies
for clean vehicles were evaluated. Compact city and mixed high-density land use strategies
were proposed. Local application of sustainable transportation strategies was assessed by
scenario analysis. This study will provide valuable insights of future optimal combination of
various clean transportation strategies. Recommendations of this study will be valuable for
transportation and environmental policy makers.
