Abstract
The factors preventing gene flow
between two species in nature are the
interesting subjects to the population
differentiation and speciation. There exists
a little but not significant postmating
isolation between Drosophila albomicans
and D. nasuta. However, no hybrids have
ever been found in nature anywhere
including the area near the border. In this
project, we analyzed the basic
characteristics of reproductive biology in
D. albomicans and D. nasuta , including
copulation duration, average mating
frequency, remating rate, and fertility.
There is neither significant premating
nor postmating reproductive isolation
between D. albomicans and D. nasuta,
and we suggest that postmating and
prezygotic reproductive isolation might be
the mechanisms to stop the gene flow of
the two species.
