Abstract
A decentralized modal control algorithm based on a transfer function matrix description is developed for the design of decentralized dynamic compensators. Coordinated synthesis of decentralized dynamic compensators can be easily achieved by this method. It is shown that the problem of the coordinated tuning of decentralized compensators can be tackled by transforming the adjustable compensator parameters into the unknown variables of a set of nonlinear equations. These equations are then solved by using the Gauss-Seidel method or Newton-Raphson method to obtain the desired compensator parameters. A numerical example for the modal control of a power system using decentralized dynamic output feedback compensators is given to demonstrate the effectiveness of the approach.>
