Abstract
Children are future masters of a nation. The development of children is
deeply related to a nation’s future. As Modern Chinese literature took shape, Lu
Xun had reminded people to “save children”. Later on, “Children” played an
important role in modern Chinese fiction. Yet few researchers have emphasized it.
It’s an oversight in studies of modern Chinese literature. This project, therefore,
aims to encompass issues concerning the “Discourse of Children in Modern
Chinese Fiction”. And how to “save children” will be the starting point of my
research.
The word “children” in “Discourse of Children” refers to kids and juveniles
whose identities resemble that of Lu Xun’s “children”. This project will focus on
modern fiction and the recollection of childhood as reflected in authors ’
biographies. On the one hand, “Discourse of Children ” will analyze the
characters of children and their experiences of growth depicted in fiction. On the
other hand, it will explore the social consciousness, class identification, gender
concept and national imagination endowed with children by adults. The dynamic
dialectic process will be included as well.
