Abstract
This work is to prepare nano-size titania / polymer complex particles, and to find the complex particles’ compatibility with PET .
Our work has two parts, part I:First, we prepare nano-size titania particles with anatase form by sol-gel method of Titanium(IV) isopropoxide in water. Then, we synthesize the titania/polymer complex particles by emulsion polymerization of acrylic acid and methyl methacrylate using nonionic surfactant: Tween20 and cationic surfactant:Cetyltrimethylammonium chloride(CTAC)and two different initiators, namely:Postassium persulfate(KPS), azo-bis(isobutyramidine hydrochloride )(AIBA), being ionic and cationic, respectively. The prepared titania/polymer complex particles are then blended with PET to find its compatibility with PET.
part II:We used PAA in sol-gel processing as a chemical additive to reduce the reactivity of metallic alkoxide. Stable TiO2-based colloids have been prepared by using a new precursor, Ti(OR)4-x(OAc)x, derived from the modification of titanium isopropoxide by PAA.
A series of nano-size titania particles and nano-size complex particles are prepared under different reaction conditions or through different polymerization processes. Then the complex particles are blended with PET. The morphology and properties of complex particles and materials are tested and discussed.
