Abstract
Multi-connectivity (MC) with packet duplication allows users to connect to multiple base stations for ultra-reliability. While related work has investigated the impact of path correlation in terms of correlated channel fading or shadowing correlation, we argue in this letter that another source of correlation referred to as 'queue correlation' needs to be considered to better profile the performance of MC. To proceed, we build a queue-theoretic framework to analyze the origin and impact of queue correlation. Evaluation results show that queue correlation could increase service outage by an order of magnitude compared to the baseline without considering such an effect under a standard 5G urban macro-cell environment.
