Abstract
This research created a whole new thought and structure for standby power monitoring. A wireless sensor network based on IEEE 802.15.4 standard was developed to integrate and to retrieve information related to the power of the appliance. Through this wireless sensor network, a new intelligent home energy managing system was developed. Without making any internal configuration changes, the external power saving device developed can effectively reduce the standby power usage. We can record and analyze human habits on power usage through long-term monitoring by using this newly developed system. It was found that monitoring the standby power provides us with a means to control the appliance power usage even further. Using this control system to consequently reduce the standby power and then the whole house power usage is the long-term goal of the research along this line.
