Abstract
The high-Tc superconducting oxides, including YBa2Cu3O7−x and Tl2CanBa2Cun+1O6 + 2n (n = 1, 2), have been prepared by the following reaction routes: ½Y2O3 + 2BaCuO2 + CuO → YBa2Cu3O7 −x and CaBa2CuO4 + Tl2O3 + nCuO + n − 1CaO → Tl2CanBa2Cun + 1O6 + 2n. Compared with the conventional methods, where either BaO or BaCO3 was used as the barium source in the reactant mixtures, the new reactions require either lower reaction temperatures or shorter calcining times. Powders thus prepared showed much improved powder characteristics, including narrower particle size distributions and a much lower content of the non-superconducting impurities. Reaction kinetics involved were also studied. © 1991, Society of Powder Technology Japan. All rights reserved.
