Abstract
Abstract On the extraordinary journey cruising into the interdisciplinary field of molecular electronics by experimentalists, many of the proposed mechanisms for electron transporting across molecular junctions have been witnessed, such as hopping, direct tunneling, thermionic emission, and field emission. For a newcomer to this research field, the terms of the mechanisms can be confusing. This mini‐review is intended to provide a very elementary introduction to the basics of the mechanisms with the help of selected literature examples to make the concept less abstract. In addition to the definition of terminologies used in molecular electronics, the correlation of experimental conditions with the pathways of electron transport is emphasized.
