Abstract
Agriculture has played an important role on Taiwan’s economy development in the past. To follow up high competition trends worldwide, essential strategy on the transformation of traditional agriculture into agro-biotechnology has to be taken. Floricultural and Chinese herbal medicine industry are two of the most potential industries to be developed in Taiwan. In this study, literatures survey was used to review past development and status of these two industries. Strategies on competitiveness were also proposed in this study which using Porter’s five forces model and SWOT analysis. It was revealed that the past cooperation of university, industry and government has placed Taiwan in a very competitive role worldwide in floricultural and Chinese herbal medicine industry. However, to breakthrough and penetrate international market and pursuit of better prospect in these industries, there are space to strive of such as products development and management through innovation. The triple helix of University-Industry-Government on issues such as technology transfer, policy determination and commercialization process have brought positive effect on the development of agro-biotechnology in Taiwan.
