Abstract
Tracheostomy can complicate a sternotomy by direct contamination of the wound, resulting in mediastinitis. We report the technique of using a thymus pedicle flap to separate the tracheostomy and sternotomy wounds. This technique eliminates the infection route, and successful debridement with primary closure of the sternotomy wound can be performed. ? Georg Thieme Verlag KG Stuttgart.
