Abstract
This paper presents the design and integration of a linear-polarized transmitter array with beam-steering functionality for Ku-band satellite communication (SATCOM) applications. A series-fed antenna array was integrated with 3-bit loaded-line phase shifters to achieve a beam scanning range of ±15 degree. Adopting a highly efficient 2-watt GaAs power amplifier (PA), the fully integrated phased-array transmitter has demonstrated a maximum equivalent isotropically radiated power (EIRP) of 59.2 dBm (29 dBW) at 14 GHz, respectively. The experimental results have shown a great potential for further scaling into larger arrays for SATCOM applications requiring high EIRP with beam steering functionality.
