Abstract
A compact broadband phase-inverter-based two-section forward coupler is realized in double-sided parallel stripline technology for work on the sub-6-GHz band. Compactness is mostly achieved by exploiting the parasitic inductance of the phase inverters while the coupler's forwardness results from two backward coupler topologies compensating each other. An excellent matching of the phase inverters is ensured by interdigital capacitors. The proposed coupler is 45% the size of a conventional two-section branchline coupler on the same technology, but the performances are similar. The simulated fractional bandwidth of 42.4% is limited by the 1 dB amplitude imbalance and guarantees at least 20 dB return loss and isolation as well as phase imbalance smaller than 5°.
