Abstract
It has been a trend to develop all kinds of useful and fancy applications for portable devices to offer more convenience to human daily life. Projection system is one of them. There are situations for personal uses when displaying only digits or simple information is needed. For such applications, miniaturization must be achieved and the projection system is required to have lower power consumption. The price should also be more affordable.
In this thesis, a miniature projecting system about the size of a one-dollar coin using two lenses for its optical system, a transmissive liquid crystal display (LCD) as its image source and a high power light emitting diode (LED) with a tapered light pipe as the backlight unit is proposed. Three generations of our designs are fabricated and discussed.
