Abstract
The main focus of this thesis is to clarify how endek, the Balinese weft-ikat textile, becomes the contemporary "Balinese Chic." First the author provides a historical outline of the change of endek textile production and local consumption since 1930s, especially the capitalization of endek industry. On this understanding, then she explains how the provincial government choose and promote endek through policy and various festivals. Thirdly, from the material of the author''s fieldwork and personal experience of participation, she argues that how the Balinese correlate with this newly formed endek fashion.
