Isolation and characterization of a gibberellin-stimulated rice (Oryza sativa L.) gene encoding a protein that resembles a tumor suppressor

Abstract
Two rice cDNAs and a genomic clone were isolated and characterized. These genes showed high sequence similarity,72% amino acid similarity, to members of the human QM gene family. The QM gene is known to encode a putative human Wilms' tumor suppressor. Sequence alignments between the genomic and cDNA clones of rice resulted in identifying three introns and four exons in the genomic clone SG12. This gene was constitutively expressed at high levels in the rice tissues examined, including shoots, roots, and germinating seeds. Interestingly, the expression of the rice QM-like gene was stimulated ≥10-fold by the presence of gibberellin in germinating seeds. © 1995.
