Abstract
There are a lot of different types of Chinese folksongs. But they are
almost concerned with women. Some of them are created and sung by women,
some described women’s daily lives or the inside spirits of women, and
some set up the model of women’s behavior. So this project will make a
deep study of those folksongs that are concerned with women’s folk
culture.
This project will consider about women as the subjective situation,
and try to give new titles of folksongs like‘ku－jiah song’’hweiniang－
jia song’’shyi－fuh song’’mah－neu－song’’mah—shyi
song’ etc.. Then we will discuss them with 4 points：（1）to analyze the
identity ,personage and spirits of women, especially considered as she’s
the daughter, the wife, the mother, the daughter—in－law of somebody.
（2）to observe the daily mood and women’s situation, in case of special

events ,time and space.（3）to research the imagination of women’s spirit
that are represented in love songs.（4）to rethink the introspection of
female virtues that are set up by folklore philosophy .
This project has made a review of some major folksongs collections. We
also made a research of ’hwei－niang－jia song’ that combined with
festival customs and women’s activities. The paper’s title is ‘A Study
of “Returning to Mother’s home”：Customs, Folksongs, Folktales and
Women Study’. Besides that, the next step to study is to refer the ancient
classics and folklore philosophy books. So we may put the women’s
training thought into folksongs analysis. Then we may rethink it and
restructure women’s culture. We may get more sharp points under this
study trail. After that, we’ll refer the themes and types of folksongs
of minority ethnic group. It may help us to research the widespread
mentality of women.
