Abstract
Statistical characteristic of heavy rainfall associated with typhoons near Taiwan based on high-density automatic rain gauge data are investigated. In addition to the investigation of a single extreme rainfall case, the long-term characteristics of the typhoon-induced rainfall and their connection to climate change or global warming is another important research topic. Researchers also examine the impact of rainfall data that are recorded at the limited, unevenly distributed conventional stations on the statistical characteristics of the typhoon-associated rainfall near Taiwan, and highlight the importance of using data from a large number of automatic rain gauge stations, which became available starting in the 1990s, to assess the statistical features of the typhoon-related rainfall.
