Abstract
Eighty four species of the lepturine genus Pidonia Mulsant of Taiwan and Mainland China were described and illustrated in this dissertation. Among them, 51 species belong to the subgenus Pidonia, 15 species to subgenus Cryptopidonia, 16 species to subgenus Mumon, and 2 species to subgenus Omphalodera, comprising 33 new species and 51 known species. New species described are as the follows: P. (P.) vespertina sp. nov., P. (P.) gressitti sp. nov., P. (P.) dayaoshana sp. nov., P. (P.) yao sp. nov., P. (P.) wuyishana sp. nov., Pidonia (Pidonia) swida sp. nov., P. (P.) minshana sp. nov., P. (P.) yangxiana sp. nov., P. (P.) nirvana sp. nov., P. (P.) buddha sp. nov., P. (P.) xueshana sp. nov., P. (P.) ambigua sp. nov., P. (P.) baishuijiangana sp. nov., P. (P.) shannxiana sp. nov., P. (P.) satana sp. nov., P. (P.) fanjingshana sp. nov., P. (P.) aescula sp. nov., P. (P.) wenxiana sp. nov., P. (P.) dufui sp. nov., P. (P.) rara sp. nov., P. (P.) kyakyushana sp. nov., P. (P.) lata sp. nov., P. (P.) rodgersia sp. nov., P. (P.) hsui sp. nov., P. (P.) parva sp. nov., P. (P.) puae sp. nov., P. (P.) ocula sp. nov., P. (P.) emeishana sp. nov., P. (M.) libai sp. nov., P. (M.) cheni sp. nov., P. (M.) takin sp. nov., P. (M.) globosa sp. nov., P. (M.) longicauda sp. nov., P. (M.) gansuana sp. nov. One subspecies was revised to species level: Pidonia (C.) continentalis (Tippmann), stat. nov.; 12 species were confirmed and added the subgeneric name: P. (P.) infuscata (Gressitt), stat. rev., P. (P.) orophila Holzschuh, stat. rev., P. (P.) determinata Holzschuh, stat. rev., P. (P.) indigna Holzschuh, stat. rev., P. (P.) ignobilis Holzschuh, stat. rev., P. (P.) exilis Holzschuh, stat. rev., P. (P.) obfuscata Holzschuh, stat. rev., P. (P.) seorsa Holzschuh, stat. rev., P. (P.) cuprescens Holzschuh, stat. rev., P. (P.) lucida Holzschuh, stat. rev., Pidonia (C.) maai (Gressitt), stat. rev., and P. (M.) palleola Holzschuh, stat. rev. Key to the subgenera and species of male adults are given. A total of visiting plants comprising 17 families, 31 genera and 58 species of these cerambycid beetles were recorded. In addition, some biology of the genus Pidonia, containing relationship of body length and description age, flight period, flower visiting habit, diversity, distribution and zoogeography are also discussed: There is no distinct trend about body length and description age of Pidonia. The major flight period are April and May in Taiwan, whereas June and July in Mainland China. Major families of flower-visiting plants of Pidonia are Rosaceae and Saxifragaceae, both belong to the subclass Archichlamydeae (Choripetalae), but in the subgenera Cryptopidonia, major flower-visiting plants is Caprifoliaceae, belong to the subclass Metachlamydeae (Sympetale). Both Taiwan and Sichuan of China are the areas with high diversity of Pidonia. The genus Pidonia distributed in Holarctic region and Oriental region, and originated from Laursia. Many cases showed the phenomena of disjunction distribution. Some hotspots of the genus Pidonia are designated. Name list of Pidonia species all over the world is also provided in this study.
