Abstract
We designed and synthesized the molecules CzC, CzCSi, and DCzC that retain the large triplet energy of carbazole while improving the morphological stability by attaching non-conjugated and bulky substitutions (i.e., triphenylmethyl and/or triphenylsilyl groups) to C3 and C6 positions of carbazole. The molecular configuration presented in this thesis is also beneficial to give the compounds with extra electrochemical stability since the electrochemically active sites of carbazole are blocked. The applications of carbazole-based new host materials in blue electroluminescence have been investigated.
We also synthesized the RGB-emitting fluorescent materials DPBS, DInT2, and DPDCIT based on ladder coplanar frameworks as core structures to afford desirable properties such as intense luminescence with high quantum yield and high carrier mobility. The molecular design of materials that can emit different colors were governed by the molecular geometry and the introduction of donor and acceptor moieties for efficient charge transfer emission.
