Abstract
Stability of spontaneous symmetry breaking in a class of SO(10) models with the 210 Higgs field is analyzed for the most general Higgs potential. It is shown that the sum-of-square form of the potential is generally a useful starting construction. It is found that a physically interesting scenario of symmetry breaking SO(10)SU(2)L×SU(2)R×SU(3)×U(1)H2231, i.e., to a nonmaximal little group, can satisfy stability requirements. © 1989 The American Physical Society.
