Abstract
Geneva mechanisms with curved slots can be regarded as an inverse cam mechanism. It has better dynamic characteristics than the conventional Geneva mechanism. A concise and systematic procedure using the theory of envelope to determine the geometry of Geneva mechanisms with curved slots is presented. Given the desired motion of wheel, the method enables the curved slots on wheel to be generated in an analytical expression. In addition, to assist design and manufacturing process, the undercutting condition as well as double-point in the curve is investigated. The design charts free of undercutting and double point are also plotted based on the input driving angle and offset angle. Finally, a mock-up is built to demonstrate the feasibility and availability of the design theory.
