Abstract
The point of this article is the characters of ying marriage, and interpretations of Classics about Han dynasty, This article discusses through five aspects: 1. Definition of ying marriage, 2. The practice of ying marriage in pre-Ch’in period, 3. The arguments about ying marriage of Han Confucianists, 4. The background of interpretation about ying marriage by Jing-Shi, 5. Marriages and harems of the imperial household in Han dynasty. These analyses will help us to understand those situations of the ancient Chinese marriage system. I will explain that ying marriage’s theories in Han dynasty are based upon so many foundations, for example, shu (number of regularity), yin-yang(陰陽), astrology, anomalism, regimen, procreation, and control of numbers about the imperial harems.
