Abstract
Proteins play key roles in cellular regulation and functions. Proteins with post-translational modifications such as phosphorylation have crucial functions in various biological processes including cell growth and signalling as well as metabolism. This chapter provides an overview on major proteomic techniques and their applications. Especially, the methods for proteome and phosphoproteome preparation and separation are introduced. Since quantitative proteomics enables us to compare the proteomes of different biological samples, the methods for quantitative proteomics are also reviewed here. Finally, the proteomics applications in both clinical and basic studies are discussed.
