Abstract
The topic of this thesis is how industry cluster affecting the research and development of products. It aims to analyze the clustering phenomenon of the Network and Communication Products industry in Taiwan and the impacts on its research and development of products. Nowadays, the existence of industry cluster tends to be a phenomenon; this thesis mainly focuses on the relationship between industry cluster and the system of products’ research and development (R&D). Michael Porter and Gary Gereffi are the famous scholars in this field. According to previous studies, the researches on industry cluster were mostly concerned about the overflow effects, but ignored the fundamental reasons of clustering phenomenon. In fact, speed and efficiency are the most important factors of industry cluster. The efficiency makes changes in industry cluster. However, the long-term studies and researches cannot fully reflect the actual situations, so this thesis used field-research and in-depth interview as the research methods. Researches in different firms and interviews with supplier managers and R&D engineers not only provide the complementary data and the latest situation of industry cluster, but also show us the strong relationship between commercialization and innovation. At last, this thesis also indicated how the government and firms to face the challenges and to get the opportunities in the Network and Communication Products industry.
