Abstract
The purposes of this study was to explore the potential of developing
ecotourism at Lugu. The recreation resources were surveyed and the opinions of local
residents and visitors were collected by interview and questionnaires to analyze the
feasibility of ecotourism development. There were 383 visitors and 377 residents
interviewed. Research results are summarized as followed: First, the ecotourism
guidelines are acceptable by most residents. However, the levels of acceptability are
affected by their income, residence area and socio-economic characteristics. These
variables also influence their preference for future development direction and
perceived obstructs for ecotourism development. Second, visitors visiting different
sites have different acceptability of ecotourism guidelines. Their travel behavior are

different and valued setting attributes of recreation site differently. These results
indicate that ecotourism development at Lugu is feasible if well planed.
