Abstract
Self-powered sensing systems that can work without external power sources have recently been demonstrated to detect various different targets. By harvesting energy directly from the environment, these self-powered sensing systems are advantageous in minimizing their size, working for a long time, and avoiding the use of toxic materials in battery. In this paper, we prepared Se-supported Au/Pd nanoparticles as the catalysts in the self-powered sensing systems. Au nanoparticles were synthesized first and served as the seeds for the growth of Pd component. The concentration of Pd component was varied by reacting with different concentrations of Pd2+ ions. Cyclic voltammetry results indicate that the Se/Au/Pd nanoparticles have excellent catalytic activity toward ethanol oxidation. Finally, The Se/Au/Pd nanoparticles were integrated with a self-powered sensing system for ethanol detection. We believe the self-powered ethanol sensor developed here will become a real sensing product in the near future.
